Many Independent Learning courses require a midterm exam in addition to quizzes and exercises throughout the course. Most courses require a final exam. Generally, a passing grade is required on the final to earn credit for the course.
Exam Request Procedure
Exam Request Forms can be submitted online or by e-mailing or faxing the PDF version. After you submit your request, contact us to schedule an appointment. Exam requests must be received no later than 2 weeks before the day of the exam. Exam requests are processed after your instructor confirms that you have completed all of the course assignments.

Taking Your Exam at CU-Boulder
If you live near Boulder, you may take proctored examinations on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder on Fridays. Exams are scheduled by appointment only between 8 am and 5 pm. Please call 303-492-5148 to schedule a testing appointment. Please bring a photo ID when taking any exam.
Taking Your Exam In-State
If you are not able to take your exam at CU-Boulder, you may take your exam at the following locations. Some institutions may charge a fee for proctoring exams.
• Alamosa: Adams State College, continuing education
• Fort Collins: Colorado State University, continuing education
• Greeley: University of Northern Colorado, continuing education
• Pueblo: Colorado State University-Pueblo, continuing education
• Colorado Springs: University of Colorado Colorado Springs, University Testing Center
• Montrose: Mesa State College-Montrose Campus
Taking Your Exam Out-of-State
If you are an out-of-state student, contact the continuing education office of a nearby college for exam proctoring information. Some institutions may charge a fee for proctoring exams.
Other Options for Taking Your Exam
If you are unable to take exams at a nearby academic institution, you may take exams under the supervision of a notary public, education official, military education officer, member of the clergy, or public official. Your relatives are not allowed to proctor exams for you. Some institutions may charge a fee for proctoring exams.
